Analysis and Application of Adaptive Finite Elements for Parabolic Problems
In this talk we introduce adaptive finite element discretizations for parabolic problems. We use a standard time-stepping scheme, where the underlying mesh as well as the local time-step-size is adapted to the behavior of the true solution in order to minimize computational cost. We give a short introduction to a posteriori error estimation and briefly review a state-of-the-art convergence result. We conclude by an extension of the presented algorithm to the carbonation process of concrete.
